The Krakow Jews Trail
June 20, 2008 - 2 p.m.
Jews lived in the Krakow district of Kazimierz since the Middle Ages. There are seven remaining synagogues, including the oldest one located in th
e Szeroka Street, which today is home to the Museum of Judaism. On the same street, there is a Jewish cemetery, a pilgrimage site for Jews from al
l over the world. Nearby, on the other bank of the Vistula River, where the Jewish ghetto was located during World War II, there is a commemorative
museum, "Apteka pod Orlem," and not far away, in Plaszow, there are the grounds of the war-time concentration camp, whose site has been turned into
a commemoration park with an impressive monument. It is worth mentioning that Kazimierz provided the scenery for Steven Spilberg's film, "The Schindler`s
List." Since then, this district of Krakow has gained even larger interest, and increasing numbers of guests have arrived to the annual Je
wish Culture Festival, held at the end of June. However, it could be said that festival never ends in Kazimierz, thanks to its myriad charming res
taurants, cafes, and pubs.
Our sightseeing trip will include visiting the Museum of Judaism and "Apteka pod Orlem" Museum. Tour by coach, English speaking guide.
