Programme for accompanying persons - Wawel Royal Castle
The Wawel Hill, called the “Polish Acropolis” by Poles, is the site of the Royal Wawel Castle, which was a royal residence since the 12th century. The arcade courtyard represents the architecture of the so called “golden age of Polish culture.” The castle is home to one of the greatest and most precious collections of tapestries in the world, which today consists of 136 works. There is also a praiseworthy collection of Oriental art, with Turkish tents and banners, Persian carpets, and armoury. Next to the castle there is the Royal Cathedral, where kings were crowned and then buried, alongside cardinals and bishops, national heroes, and poets.
Our visit will include: Royal Private Apartments and the Cathedral.
English speaking guide. After visiting the Castle lunch in the restaurant nearby. Date: 29.09.2009.
